Rev. Carlos M. Roby, 93, and a resident of the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Community Living Center in Jackson, returned to his heavenly home on November 28, 2014. He was born April 13, 1921 to John and Susan Jenkins Roby in Leake County. He was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. A man of faith and the heart of the Roby family, he shaped their spirituality by his tireless Christian example. Throughout his life, he maintained a kind and loving demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. He had a real zest for life and a true servant's heart.
He served in the United States Army during World War II for three years in China and Burma. C.M., a Methodist minister, retired to Clinton in 1986. Prior to his retirement, her served the North Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist church in Maben, Ackerman, Minter City, Drew, Shelby and Rosedale. Upon his retirement, he was an active member of Clinton First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed forestry and land management and spending time with his great-grandchildren and visiting family and friends throughout the state.
C.M. was blessed with a devoted and adoring family. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his loving wife of 72 years, Wylodean Dickerson Roby, a daughter, Brenda Roby Sullivan, (Larry); a granddaughter, Renee Moorman Haywood Ainsworth, (Gary); a grandson, Marvin Ellis Moorman II, (Sherri); and five great grandchildren, Cooper, Connor and Cole Haywood and Jennifer and Christian Moorman.
He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 2:30 pm in Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Durant. Burial will be in Sallis Cemetery is Sallis, MS.
