Floreid “Flo” Ingram, 98, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4 from 12 to 2 pm with services following at 2:00 pm at Southern Funeral Home in Durant, Mississippi. Interment will follow at Saron Cemetery.

Flo was born in Eddsville community, Holmes County, on May 21, 1916. She attended Durant Schools and Holmes Junior College. Following college Flo made her home in Jackson, where she became employed by Mississippi Valley Gas Co. Flo enjoyed work, friends and playing tennis while in Jackson. Flo returned to Durant in the early 1960s to assist with the care of her aging mother and to continue work at the Durant office of Miss Valley Gas. After returning to the farm, she expanded her love for nature, animals and “farm life”. Flo is affectionately remembered as “Miss Flo and her animals” as she housed and nurtured many stray animals and cared for her cattle and pigs during her years on the farm. She even gave special names to many of her four-legged friends. She worked briefly for M & F Bank as a courier. In later years, she left her beloved farm and moved to Jackson, TN to live with a niece, Mary Lou Gatgens and husband, Tom.

Early in life Flo was a member of Saron Baptist Church, which her parents help found, and later she became a member at Calvary Baptist in Durant. She will be remembered for extending a helping hand to many in need and she frequently gave to her favorite charities, for children and for animals, both local and in other countries.

Flo was preceded in death by her father and mother, William (Brose) and Mary Lue Matthews Ingram; three brothers, Joe Dorman Ingram; Windell (Dut) Ingram; W. T. (Bill) Ingram; two sisters, Mary Lucille Ingram Horn; Nan Ingram Ruhig; and three sisters who died in childhood: Bethie Kathrine; Martha Lee; and Frances May; two nephews, Phillip M. Ingram; Frankin Ruhig.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Wendy Ruhig (Sid); Rosemary Ruhig Dumont (Paul); Conway Horn; Mary Lou Horn Gatgens (Tom); William Ingram (Virginia); Frances Ingram (Carolyn); Hugh Ingram (Lois); Roger Ingram (Delia); Doug Ingram (Carrie); Roland Ingram (Brenda); David B. Ingram (Debbie); William M. Ingram (Susan); Donald Ingram; James Ingram (Jackie). She also leaves a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be great nephews.
