Funeral services will be held for Emily Pope Young at 2 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Southern Funeral Home in Durant, MS. Emily passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at River Oaks Hospital. Emily was born on August 30, 1930 to Pelham Pope and Sadie W. Pope. She is survived by her husband Walter (Sugar Boy) Young, son, David Young, daughter, Susan Clements, her daughter in law, Gail Young; four grandchildren; Brad Young, his wife Liz Young, Emily Jones Rhodes, her husband Greg Rhodes, David Williams and Sam Jones. She had five great-grandchildren; Shelby Young, Woods Young, Keegan Williams, Bryona Williams and Philip Rhodes. Emily is preceded in death by her late daughter, Sarah Jones, sister Mary Jane Pope Sampson, her in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Young and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Pope. She accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as her savior as a young girl.
While living in Pickens, MS Emily worked as Executive Secretary to three different Presidents of Holmes Community College for 30 years when she retired. She had received numerous awards from the College. Emily and Walter moved to Madison, MS in 1996 where they have enjoyed their retirement. The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses and staff at River Oaks Hospital for their fine care of Emily Young.
