Obituary for Myra Parrish (Langston)

Myra Langston Parrish, 92, formerly of Tchula, Mississippi, passed away November 1, 2017, in Jackson, Mississippi. Myra was born in Drew, Mississippi, December 5, 1924, to Graydon Boyce Langston and Myra McRae Langston.
Upon graduation from Delta State University in 1945, Myra moved to Tchula, Mississippi, to teach math and bookkeeping. She married Kenneth D. Parrish on March 20, 1947, and he predeceased her in 1990. Myra was known as a wonderful cook, who always “tweaked” the recipe. Flower shows with the Tchula Garden Club were some of her favorite memories. Summers were spent filling the freezer with fresh vegetables and supporting her husband as he farmed. Tchula United Methodist Church was an important part of their lives. After moving to Jackson, MS, in 1991, Myra became a part of Alta Woods United Methodist Church.
Myra is survived by sons, Kenneth Diggs Parrish, Jr. (Terry) of Clinton and Harvey Langston Parrish (Karen) of Greenville. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Matthew L. Parrish (Ashley) of Woodstock, Georgia; Laura Layne Parrish of Trussville, Alabama; William H. Parrish (Courtney) of Memphis, TN and Andrew R. Parrish (Mary Claire) of Madison, as well as five great grandchildren who lovingly called her “Memac”. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Myra was predeceased by siblings, Laura Langston, Bobbi Ray Harris, John Langston and Milton Langston.
Visitation will be from 1 pm until the service time at 2 pm on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Acona Methodist Church in Acona, MS. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 813 Shades Creek Parkway, Suite 100 B, Birmingham, AL 35209 or Alta Woods United Methodist Church, 109 Alta Woods Blvd, Jackson, MS 39204.
